Syon Park Hilton Hotel
Syon Park is the 200 acre home of Syon House, where Henry VIII's fifth wife Catherine Howard was imprisoned before facing her rather gruesome fate at the Tower of London in 1542. It was also where, five years later, Henry's body rested for the night before the journey to his burial place at St George's Chapel in Windsor.
Now it is the home of the Duke of Northumberland and, nestled on the edges of the grounds is the Syon Park Hilton Hotel. It's an impressive building, modelled on the old stable block which stood in the park over 200 years ago and it oozes luxury. The gardens are beautiful, there is a spa, and the main ballroom is vast - the perfect venue for a wedding!
We filmed Kate and Paul's wedding there last summer and it was such a lovely experience. The staff were amazing - so friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were excellent; as a wedding videographer, you have quite a bit of kit with you so it was wonderful to find a secure and very comfortable room where were could leave all of the things we didn't need and grab a bite to eat in private when we could spare 5 minutes!
If you are planning a big wedding with lots of guests, this is definitely a venue to take a look at. The ballroom is so spacious; there were 200+ at Kate and Paul's wedding and we never felt like we were in the way, we had plenty of room to set up our cameras and film away without being anywhere near the guests (I got excellent use out of the long lens!).
We have happy memories of filming this wedding - and some funny ones. I remember wondering where the bride and groom were as it was time for the cutting of the cake. They were nowhere to be found. It turned out England were playing in the world cup and quite a few of the guests had sneaked out to watch the penalty shoot outs - including the bride and groom! Hilarious. We didn't mind at all, it just gave us a little more time to ensure we were ready for the perfect shot. A little bit like the footballers, perhaps?!
