Hindu Wedding Ceremony
Next came the Hindu wedding which took place at the Oshwal Centre in Potters Bar which is near London. That was an amazing experience. The groom arrived in a throng of people banging drums, brandishing flames, playing trumpets - Bill was a bit jealous actually and said he'd like that kind of welcome every time he walked into a room. I said I could probably manage a kazoo and a scented candle but that's it. Anyway, I digress.
Next came the bride, after a short ritual with the groom and the bride's mother, and her entrance was equally as dramatic. Surrounded by male family members carrying a sort of flower garland banner, she looked incredible. Really, really beautiful. I can't wait to be able to publish some screenshots. The colours were numerous and bright and the noise and fuss only enhanced the atmosphere.
The ceremony involved many rituals involving flames, taking first steps together, even playing games. And so many people were on the stage with them. I was struggling to get a shot at first until one of the uncles tapped me on the shoulder and told me to get my shoes off, get up there and get amongst it! So I did! I'm so glad he said that, as I would have been too polite otherwise and possibly my footage wouldn't have been as good. But, thanks to him, I was up there with the wedding party, shoes off, and no one batted an eyelid!
The Oshwal centre is lovely and the temple there is beautiful, The people are very friendly too: when Bill and I went for a recce a few weeks earlier, we met Manu who was delighted to show us around.
