A Safari Wedding

July 26, 2019

The gorgeous Nikita and Rob got married at Port Lympne Hotel and Reserve at the start of May which kicked off a flurry of weddings for us in late spring/early summer.

While peacocks roamed around the grounds, Nikita and her bridal party got ready in the beautiful mansion house and I was there to capture it all. Stories were told of how people met while good friends styled hair beautifully and applied flawless makeup. There was laughter and fun and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.

Bill meanwhile was outside to capture the groom and his party straightening ties, and attaching flowers to lapels (called boutonnieres - who knew?) and having photos taken, while the toastmasters John and Nicki mingled and kept everything running smoothly.

The forecast was a bit undecided so people were apprehensively checking phones as dark clouds came and went but as the clocked ticked on, the clouds lessened and by the time the ceremony was due to start the sun was shining down on the guests sitting in the beautiful courtyard, awaiting the bride while a string quartet played gently in the background. The mood was set and it was time.

The wedding ceremony was beautiful with two heartfelt readings and the new Mr and Mrs walked down the aisle through bursts of confetti - which looked gorgeous in the film as we slowed it down for maximum effect!

Time for photos and lawn games; while children (and Man of Honour!) played giant Connect 4 and Jenga, the VERY photogenic couple had their formal and informal pics taken in front of the sweet smelling wisteria wall and guests gradually made their way up to the terrace for drinks and chat.

After the wedding breakfast and some very amusing speeches (Best Man-'He was Canadian, I was impressionable), there came a lovely surprise for the guests - SAFARI TRIP!!

How exciting it was. After shots for all the guests, we clambered onto the safari trucks and were driven around the reserve to spot monkeys, rhinos, prairie dogs, camels and a whole host of bemused looking animals. What a novel thing to do on your wedding day! The guests were thrilled and the shot they were invited to throw back prior to getting on the trucks kept them warm as the sun went down. We arrived back ready for some tea and coffee and soon it was time to cut the cake!

First dance next and a personal favourite of mine - Yazoo's Only You. What a great choice; I love a bit of 80s music and the song worked so incredibly well as a first dance. We stayed around to get some hilarious footage of guests boogie-ing, photo booth action, and we even managed to spy a sneaky peacock peeping in through the glazed roof, probably wondering what all the fuss was about. You know it's been a smashing day when even the animals are interested in what's going on!

We hope Nikita and Rob have a fun-filled first year as husband and wife and wish them all the best in their life together. What an amazing start!
